rpm under load

Hi guys, Hoping I can bend someones ear this fine sunday .

Today I was doing my annual maint on my home direct drive hvac blower assy. specifically taking the blower motor the blower wheel and housing apart to clean and inspect.
I usually oil the bearings and check the motor bearings for any play, everything seemed fine
fine. Since I got a new toy ( rpm digital laser ) for work I wanted to use it

Motor is emerson 1/3 hp psc 115vac direct drive 1050rpm and using my new toy I measured 1149 rpm no load at shaft with squirrel cage off on high speed (bare motor) . and with the motor mounted in blower assy with steel squirrel cage I measured 728 rpm and 4.6 A with blower assy out of unit so no resistance to airflow from coil or exchanger or duct work . FLA is 6.0 amps Is this acceptable rpm drop for a direct drive blower ?

thx again

Stair stringer layout

Hi all,
Question on depth of treads and I want to make sure I wasn't missing something.

I am trying to keep things simple and do a 7-1/2" rise and 10" run, based on numerous stair calculators and our actual height. 2, 5/4x6 boards is supposed to yield 11", which leaves a 1" overhang. Sounds simple, right?

We are doing a cumaru deck (hardwood, almost like ipe). They recommend 1/4" spacing due to being kiln dried and it will definitely expand as opposed to contract. Seeing as I'l have 2 gaps there, it seems like that is more like 11-1/2", so my runs would have to be 10 1/2" each to accommodate. If I come in just under that (10-3/8"), that puts it close to the 5" minimum throat, but should be doable.

Am I missing something here? None of the calculators or articles mention the board gap. Most simply imply that a 10" run is great for 2, 2x6's or what not for the treads.

Thanks,
Anthony

Higher Indoor Humidity after Coil Replacement

The coil in my four-year-old York air handler was replaced six days ago due to it leaking coolant. This is the latest in a series of warranty repairs, and my contractor has reached the point of getting noticeably exasperated with hearing from me. Although the unit is cooling the house since the new coil was installed, the humidity level indoors has increased and is now reading 71%. I unfortunately don't have a "before" relative humidity to provide, but even here in Central Florida, on a rainy day, the previous coil, leaking coolant, was performing better than that.

I haven't noticed the unit running excessively, but it's very quiet and on Florida summer days, it ran a lot of the time anyhow. Can someone here can help me gain a better understanding of how a coil replacement can cause this to happen before I contact my already-annoyed contractor so that I can remain solution-focused and hopefully get out of his hair for a while?

Help with lighting solution coming out of STOP sign

Name: stopsign.jpg

We found a 4 x 4 stop sign for my son's room but would like to have some sort of lighting solution coming out of 3 holes that are in the bottom of the sign. I've attached a pic (sorry it's not the best) showing 2 of the 3 holes. Was thinking some sort of LED lights (IKEA maybe) and was wondering if anyone had any specific ideas. Thanks.

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a website with pro installation instructions or another possible source - in particular setting compressor for delayed 3.5 minute start. Thanks in advance

Moving an outlet and converting it into a gfi

I have a working receptacle that gas 3 romex wires connecting to it. Set 1 is a 14/2 and set 2 is 14/3 and set 3 is 14/2. The only hot wires are the red and black from set 2. Here is how the outlet is wired. Set 1 white is connected to bottom left of receptacle and black is connected to red of set 2. Set 2 white is connected to top left rear of the receptacle and black is connected to the top right of the receptacle. Set 3 white is connected to the top left and black is connected to the bottom right. My goal is tone remove this outlet and install a gfi about 3 feet higher.
